good eats & travel experiences
We were fortunate enough to be invited to the pre opening of Totem at The Los Angeles Port the day before it’s opening to the public. Since it was a pre opening, keep in mind it wasn’t completely full so arrival, parking & lines were overall all shorter than normal.
left WLA Area: 5:10pm in Thursday Los Angeles 405 traffic, ugh…
Arrived: 6:15pm, we allowed ourselves 35 minutes MAX. We decided the bar would be the quickest and though it was pretty full, there was luckily 2 spots available together. Our bartender was great, an older gentleman but definitely a people’s guy & very comfortable behind the bar.
This places feels like they have many regulars and really an old school charm. Food was good, I would go back if ever in the area.
We ordered: Shrimp Skewers & evening special, scallops + 2 cocktails
// bill total $51.50 i think, + tip
From J. Trani’s Ristorante, it’s less than 10 minutes away. Though we didn’t see as much signage as we prefer, phone navigation & the flow of cars will most likely guide you. It’s in the southernmost point.
Overall, we loved the show. After all, it is Cirque du Soleil so you know it’s near perfection and very detailed. My favorite scenes, I have a few. The opening was great on the bars and while I was amazed & a wreck during the unicycles & bowls I can’t help but to enjoy the comedic, silly scenes – .
My absolute favorite scene was the Fixed Trapeze Duo – pure awe & perfection as I saw it. A guy & gal playing lovebirds teasing back & forth, intertwining…..becoming one, captured the romantic side of my heart. Luckily for this scene were up close in the 5th row so I really had the chance to see their expressions and fall in love.
1st location: We were seated dead center, midway up. Though it felt a lil cramped and the ignorant people sitting next to us wouldn’t stop chatting & trying to video tape, it was a great overall view of everything going on.
2nd location: Since we did attend a pre-opening show and their were open seats, we decided to move next to our friends on the side, 5 row from the stage. This means we were now looking up to the stage. Now while I did enjoy being this close up since you can really see all the costume & makeup details, overall we preferred our 1st location since it gave such a better aspect of the overall show.
